Coffee Shop Retail Design Consultants - Projects 2.

Finch House Coffee Shop - Tonbridge, Kent

TK Retail Design were appointed to design a stand-alone coffee house in the commuter town of Tonbridge, Kent, by Mr Goldfinch, for whom TK Projects had previously designed and constructed a unit on the South Coast and in Redhill Surrey.

TK Retail Design developed a concept in a New England style design, utilising sawn finish feather edged boarding, with a pale lime washed finish, using Fired Earth design colours. The counter incorporated bespoke chilled ambient and hot cabinets build into a white corian top.

The coffee house design was complemented by the use of aqua green ceramic tiles from Fired Earth on the splash back. To combine a contemporary (industrial) theme, the existing structural slab was exposed and services run in galvanised cable trays. A deliberate use of subdued lighting was achieved by retro light fitting salvaged from a 1930's bank.

Further work within the building provided a first floor prep room and multiple freezer storage.

The coffee shop has proved to be so popular that we have been instructed to prepare a scheme to utilise the first floor for private meetings in a more relaxed environment.

The unit has exceeded all expectations of turnover and its growth is constrained only by its size.

Hartley Dyke Farm Shop - Kent

The owners of the Hartley Farm shop decided to expand by constructing an agricultural style building next to existing shop, supported by the Rural Development Fund, to diversify from the core business of apple farming.

TK Retail Design was appointed to prepare a scheme for a relaxed, informal, child friendly environment, which would support both the local community and the adjacent day nursery, providing a contemporary environment for young mums and visitors to the farm shop.

The design reflects the agricultural location but has an eclectic mix of finishes and light fittings, giving a modern concept for its younger generation clientele. Traditional paint colours were used throughout, giving both a traditional colour plate against a backdrop of contemporary finishes.

Pigwidgeon & Pie Coffee Shop & Deli - Tonbridge Wells.

This was a complete design and renovation from concept to completion. It involved converting an old building into an upmarket coffee house and fine food store. The enterprise includes an exclusive farm shop deli concept in the Georgian Spa town.

Turn Key Retail Design provided a complete package inclusive of specialist equipment specifications, down to the sourcing of ethically produced produce.

The brief required a facility for 40+ covers in an upmarket café and coffee shop, together with a design layout of an exclusive deli / farm shop / wine purveyor.

Planning Permission Challenge

A major challenge was obtaining the approvals and planning permission for a café and outside seating area. This was secured through detailed negotiations with Tonbridge Wells council. The brief was to build a combination of contemporary and classical elements set in what was previously a run down retail unit.

The fit out included the removal of asbestos elements within the building to comply with current regs and the incorporation of art deco features to the public stair case, to the first floor seating areas.

The project was completed in time for the the summer trade in order to maximise the potential of the outside seating area. The project came in on time and under budget, which is the signature of a successful TK retail Design project.
